About the event
Whilst there is already a long-standing, well-explored global hydrogen economy produced by industrial processes (green or blue hydrogen), there is another, currently unexplored potential market made up of naturally occurring hydrogen accumulated in the earth's crust.
Join us as we discuss the potential commercial viability of natural hydrogen, and what actions need to be taken to assess potential for natural hydrogen to provide a stable, abundant clean energy source which can contribute to meeting our net zero targets, address man-made climate change, and ensure our energy security through clean energy.
We will discuss key considerations for this new market, including:
Priorities for exploration strategy and reducing cost for high-resolution data, taking stock of the UK’s potential and exploring granite, mafic, and ultramafic rock in Cornwall & Scotland.
Addressing regulatory gaps and implementing a framework which allows for market development, with key insight on international approaches taken so far.
Sealing and migration modelling for natural gas extraction and preservation.
Infrastructure integration: Exploring the potential for existing infrastructure to allow for the transportation of natural hydrogen.
The webinar will also discuss wider potential benefits of UK natural hydrogen market development, including the potential impact on infrastructure development, skills and employment, and enabling the development of a circular economy.
This session is part of the Foresight Webinar Series, offering insight and analysis on key technologies and policies shaping the future of clean energy and industry in the UK - building toward the in-person Foresight Event early next year.
