Wales is accelerating its transition to a greener, stronger, and fairer economy through strategic investments in hydrogen and renewable energy, as outlined in the newly released Wales Hydrogen Outlook. With a commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2050, Wales is leveraging its abundant natural resources, advanced research capabilities, and industrial expertise to drive hydrogen innovation and decarbonisation.

The outlook highlights key initiatives, including the South Wales Industrial Cluster (SWIC) and North East Wales Industrial Decarbonisation (NEW-ID), which aim to cut Welsh CO₂ emissions by 40% by 2040 and achieve full decarbonisation by 2050. Groundbreaking projects such as HyHaul, HyNet, and the Hydrogen Research and Demonstration Centre are paving the way for clean transport and energy solutions.
“Wales has the potential to become a global leader in hydrogen energy,” said Rebecca Evans MS, Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Energy, and Planning. “With our rich renewable resources and collaborative approach, hydrogen will play a crucial role in our journey to net zero.”
With major industrial players, research institutions, and government support, Wales is positioning itself as a hub for hydrogen innovation. The Welsh Government invites businesses and investors to explore opportunities within this dynamic and rapidly growing sector.
